Books Day 22
Day 22 – Favorite non-sexual relationship (including asexual romantic relationships) This is annoyingly similar to yesterday’s question. Lets see…non-romantic. Ahah! Harry and Dumbledore. Dumbledore is just such a great man. So wise, so caring. And he tries his hardest to help Harry become the man he knows he must be.  “I am not afraid, Harry. I am with you.”

Books Day 21
Day 21 – Favorite romantic/sexual relationship (including asexual romantic relationships) I haven’t read it but, Ada and Inman in Cold Mountain. Despite the fact that I hate Romeo and Juliet, there is something so heart-wrenching about true love that’s smashed to pieces. And the real heart-ache is that’s the kind of love that should be kept away from anything that is known to...

Egypt Is On the Edge →
Internet and Cellphone service has been suspended throughout the country, all inbound flights have been cancelled. Egypt is now an island of unrest. I am quivering in anticipation of what could happen.

Books Day 20
I skipped day 19, didn’t feel like looking through all the book-covers and picking which one I liked the most. So… Day 20 – Favorite kiss Will and Lyra, The Amber Spyglass. Its so perfectly innocent.

Books Day 18
Day 18 – Favorite beginning scene in a book The beginning of East of Eden. Steinbeck starts the book with a description of the Salinas Valley, its colors, vegetations, history, names. My favorite line,  “And mixed with these were splashes of California poppies. These too are of a burning color—not orange, not gold, but if pure gold were liquid and could raise a cream, that golden...

I’d be down with you re-purposing old platinum and gems to make my engagement ring, like Natalie Portman’s fiance did for her.

Books Day 17
Day 17 – Favorite story or collection of stories (short stories, novellas, novelettes, etc.) Welcome To The Monkey House-Kurt Vonnegut. Its filled with all sorts of delectable literary nuggets, each with their own personal commentary on society, love, war, etc. My favorite is the story of Vonnegut and his first wife, which he submitted to The Ladies’ Home Journal. Not sure if they got the...

Books Day 16
Day 16 – Favorite poem or collection of poetry. I’m not a big poetry person, and my answer is going to sound really dumb. The Highwayman. That’s my favorite poem. I just loved the adventure and romance of it when I first heard it. The idea of the Highwayman: such a rake, so adventurous, clearly handsome. I swoon!

Books Day 13
Day 13 – Favorite childhood book OR current favorite YA book (or both!) My favorite book as a child was The Witches by Rhoald Dahl. Its what got me into this whole fantasy nonsense. I also really loved the Redwall Series. Nowadays I love HP, His Dark Materials, and most recently Chaos Walking by Patrick Ness.

Books Day 12
A book or series I’ve read more than five times. All of the Harry Potters, probably more like 12 times a piece. Slaughterhouse 5, its very short, and still very poignant every time. I usually reread them 2 or 3 times if I really like them. To read them 5 times over means I LOVE them.

Books Day 11
A book that ended up disappointing me. Sense and Sensibility. I had seen the movie before I read the book. And I have to say, the movie doesn’t illustrate just how spineless and useless those girls were. I mean ok I get that A) It was hard for ladies and B) Not everyone can be Elizabeth Bennet but COME ON. Marianne just acts like a dithering idiot until finally someone breaks her heart, and...

Books Day 10
A book I thought I wouldn’t like but ended up loving. It is the curse of most English classes that the students think that since they are being forced to read book X it cannot be as good as book Y which they would have chosen for themselves. I have been this unfortunate student before with books like the Great Gatsby (overrated) and the Wide Sargasso Sea. In my senior year however, my AP...

Books Day 9
Best scene ever. Oh god. Let me think about this for a couple of hours. Amber Spyglass: Will and Lyra are eating the red fruit underneath the tree canopy, and they finally realize that they love each other. East of Eden: Caleb tells his father the truth. The Deathly Hallows: Harry, having sacrificed himself to save everything he loves, finally defeats Voldemort.

Books Day 7 (Which I Accidentally Skipped)
What is an over-employed plot device that annoys you in an otherwise good book? Well, I don’t know if I would call it annoying, but seeing as I pick up and read pretty much any fantasy book with this plotline then I guess it can be called over-used: Plot-line: Somewhere out there, there is an exceptional girl, she may not be beautiful but she’s awesome in some other way, an injustice...

Books Day 8
A book everyone should read at least once. As usual I can not help but give a collective answer: 1) East of Eden: Truth is uber importante! And other excellent lessons about life. 2) Slaughterhouse 5: People do mean things, but the world is still beautiful. 3) Pride and Prejudice: Be careful about judgement and it teaches lots about ladies. Why am I not a literature professor?!
